with Lloyd Herman and Driss Amrani

April 4 - 17, 2009 • $4620 from JFK via Royal Air Maroc

Dear World Travelers and Crafts Enthusiasts,

Join internationally recognized crafts expert, Lloyd Herman, as he leads us on a journey of discovery and learning. Lloyd will take us through ancient passageways, deep into centuries-old souks, and into crafts centers where artisans have passed their secret techniques in to countless generations.

Along the way, our local guide, Driss, will take us on visits to the historic and cultural sites of this fascinating country. In the garden oasis city of Marrakech, we’ll experience Jemaa el Fna Square, one of the liveliest places on earth, and the Koutoubia Mosque, one of Africa’s most famous buildings. As our journey continues, we’ll climb aboard 4x4 vehicles to our deluxe camp in the Sahara. In Casablanca, we’ll venture inside the King Hassan II Mosque – normally visitors are only allowed to peek through the gates – and visit the private Museum of Beghazi. We’ll explore the narrow streets and souks of Fez, a UNESCO world cultural heritage city. We’ll enjoy visits and lectures found on no other tour.

At each fascinating stop on our journey, Lloyd will introduce us to crafts unique to each city and region. In Marrakech, we’ll visit a number of crafts workshops and see their unique chairs made of woven straw. We’ll search out a pottery factory outside of Zagora. In Fez, we’ll see cloth being handmade, textile weaving on looms, a pottery factory, tanneries, copper and brass craftsmen and see carpet making in the home. We won’t miss baboushe slippers and musical instruments made of leather.

We hope you’ll join us on this very special journey. Please read over our brochure and send your deposit today.

Yours in discovery and adventure,

Gwen
